        • DARIEL CRUZ RODRIGUEZ

          Founding Civics 2030 Steering Committee Member

          Dariel is 16 years old and hails from Colonial High School in Orlando, Florida. When he is not busy supporting the great work that Civics Unplugged puts together, he builds his own campaign. In June, he began a campaign called "Students for Open Primaries" to help garner young vote support for Open Primaries in Florida. He is a team-player and is ready to serve the CU community!

          In service of the Civics 2030 Campaign, I pledge to...

          • develop new strategies for the spreading high quality civic education in America;
          • spearhead Civics Unplugged's social media strategy;
          • draft resolutions or other informational documents for the benefit of the Civics 2030 community;
          • share the mission of Civics 2030 with my elected officials and with my connections locally in Orlando, Florida.

          I have joined the Civics 2030 Campaign because...

          • I envision a government that works much better than how it does today, and the path to build a better government starts with training more informed and capable leaders.

          To me, a flourishing democracy is one...

          • where emerging generations are included in decision making,

          • where leaders value the input of those with expertise, and

          • where all citizens play an active role in shaping their government.

          To me, a flourishing community is one...

          • where all members have an important job to do,
            where all members share some key common values, and

          • where everyone commits to finding ways to work productively together.

          In my development as a Civic Superhero, I strive to embody...

          1. Joy: To make sure that I am happy with what I am doing, or satisfied.

          2. Dedication: To remain on task and committed to the mission, regardless of my day-to-day mood.

          3. Humility: To admit when I am wrong

          4. Respect: To respect others opinions and to take them into account when looking or facing tough decisions

          5. Grit: To do whatever it takes, even if it means working overtime or accommodating in certain situations.

          By 2030, I pledge to have contributed to the flourishing of the following communities:

          • My high school community

          • My central Florida youth community

          • The Florida education reform community

          By 2030, I pledge to have played any, many, or all of the following roles in service of creating a brighter future for my communities and American democracy:

          • Civic educator
          • School board member
          • County commissioner

          Long Term Goals

          • By July 4th, 2021: Provide 5 workshops to Student Council’s in my area on Voter Registration drives on their campuses.
            By July 4th, 2022: Have helped pass a major piece of electoral reform legislation.
            By July 4th, 2025: Help pass automatic voter registration in multiple cities in Central Florida.
