Rise and Civics Unplugged have partnered to build a global community of empowered young leaders.
More about Rise
Rise, an initiative betweenSchmidt Futures and The Rhodes Trust at Oxford, is building a global community of future leaders between the ages of 15-17. Everyone who applies will gain access to a network of peers, learning resources, and additional opportunities from our partners around the world. Each year, Rise will select 100 Global Winners and provide them with a lifetime of personalized support—including scholarships, mentorship, career services, and access to funding to develop their ideas—as they work together to serve others.
Civics Unplugged is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) social enterprise whose mission is to empower the leaders of Generation Z to build the future of American democracy. Each year, we run the Civics Unplugged Fellowship, a 5-month civic leadership program that empowers high school students representing every region of the U.S. with the tools, training, and community to build the future.
If you are between the ages of 15 and 17 as of July 1, 2021, and interested in serving others throughout your life, you are eligible to apply to Rise. It does not matter what country you live in, background you come from, or academic experiences you have had.
Whether you’re interested in science, art, community organizing, or any other topic, we want to hear from you.
What makes Rise different from other scholarship or educational programs?
Rise is for life. Rise is designed to encourage a lifetime of learning and service by providing Global Winners with individualized support for decades to come. The more you develop your talents and demonstrate service to others, the more opportunities will become available over the course of your life. Rise helps you use your talents for good. We want to know how you'll use your talents to build a better world, and how Rise will help you do it. That's why we look for brilliance, and also want to see your integrity, empathy, and perseverance. Rise is a global community. Everyone who applies to Rise, from any country, with any background, will have the opportunity to become part of a global community with access to free online courses and opportunities around the world.
What are the lifetime of benefits for Rise Global Winners?
Each year, Rise plans to select 100 Global Winners and provide them with access to a lifetime of benefits as they work to serve others.
Rise Global Winners will receive access to need-based financial support for university and internships, in addition to a technology package and free online courses. They will attend a fully-funded residential summit to explore leadership, service, and their future career paths. As they enter the workforce, they’ll receive mentorship and career services to further their service to others. If their work benefits their community, they’ll be able to apply for funding to scale up their impact. If they have an idea for a social enterprise, they’ll be able to compete for investment that grows as they show results. Throughout their lives, they’ll be able to engage with a global community of leaders and have early access to educational and funding opportunities through the network of Rise partners, including universities, businesses, and nonprofits.
