    • 2021 FELLOWSHIP CURRICULUM

The Fellowship's "Training Phase" provides Fellows with the foundational knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to become effective contributors to the movement to strengthen American democracy.

Unit 1: How to Save American Democracy

Get an overview of many of the overarching challenges and threats our democracy faces, why we created "The Civics 2030 Campaign", and how you can help us hatch a plan to save and build the future of American democracy (seriously).

Unit 2: How to Know and Grow Thyself

Learn how to know and grow yourself, your partnerships, and your communities to make lasting positive change; about the different tools, systems, and practices you can adopt to be more organized and productive in the digital age; and how to build communities of purpose capable of making lasting systemic change.

Unit 3: How to "Map" Our Democratic Challenges

Learn about how to understand your own mental models, how to grapple with diverse world views, and how to "map" a system, so your understand the patterns, conditions, and leverage points of the system before you "intervene."

Unit 4: How to Build Toward a Brighter 2030

Begin thinking about what you will do over the next ten years of your superheroic journey. In order for you to do this well, you will learn about what and who it takes to evolve democracy.

      Zia, 16

      Denver, CO

"Civics Unplugged connected us with the world unlike any other program or organization I have experienced. I also learned more about myself than I would have ever expected. What's more is that the goals and expectations that my peers and I set for ourselves and each other laid the roadmap for our work over the next decade to strengthen American democracy."

      Ethan, 15

      Islip, NY

"Civics Unplugged has been a rare source of hope for my generation as we look to take on responsibility for building the future. As a 2020 Fellow, the Fellowship cultivated a sense of mutual understanding among my peers that we face a lot of problems, and that it's much better to face them together."

      Zoë, 16

      Lexington, KY

"Youth have been on the front lines of system change and community empowerment for decades. While our education system teaches the youth to wait their turn, Civics Unplugged accelerates the projects, potential, and power of our generation to lead our communities and democracy to a brighter future."
